La Capsa de Llum is a Catalan farmhouse built between the 17th and 18th centuries. It was restored in Spring 2017, fully respecting the structure and the essence of the typical country houses of the area, but adding a more modern and functional slant to its rustic charm.
It covers 350m2 and combines traditional Catalan country house flooring, exposed stone walls, wooden beams, brick vaulted ceilings, natural materials and period furniture with contemporary objects and complements, well-designed lighting, high-speed Wi-Fi, modern fireplaces and central heating in all the rooms.
Besides, the last summer we opened a swimming pool!
The bedrooms
La Capsa de Llum has 5 bedrooms, and can sleep up to 16 people. Each bedroom has its unique personality. Guess what is behind each name...
El Festeig (Courtship): one double bed
Els Pardals (The Sparrows): one double bed and a comfortable double sofa-bed
El Firmament (The Firmament): one double bed (can be made up as twin beds)
La Petite Suite (The Little Suite): one double bed (with en suite bathroom)
Les Lliteres (The Bunkbeds): two bunk beds (sleeps 4) and two additional pull-out beds

A great place to relax with comfortable sofas, a variety of books, bluetooth speakers and a wood-burning stove.

A large open space. 35m2 to use as you wish: from doing yoga in a group to reading.
THE KITCHEN
A comfortable and well-equipped kitchen (with gas burners, electric oven, dishwasher, microwave oven etc),
THE CONSERVATORY
Very light, ideal for finding some peace.
THE SUN TERRACE
A large terrace to sunbathe on, have a shower outside, admire the village church’s ancient belltower and the fields and mountains surrounding the village. When night falls, you can enjoy looking at the stars.
THE GARDEN
The house backs onto a lovely 200m2 garden which has a lawn and several trees. It includes an eating area with a barbecue, a ping-pong table, a hammock and a swing for the little ones. We also have a 4x2 meter Simming Pool available from May to September, both included. The rest of the year it is covered and cannot be used.
THE BATHROOMS
Three complete bathrooms: two with bath and shower (one of them belonging to "La Petite Suite" bedroom), and one with shower.
The story
I remember the first time we saw the house.
We glimpsed its old wooden door from one of the small alleys that surround the imposing centuries-old church of the town. When we went beyond its thick stone walls, we found ourselves in the entrance room, a large, quite dark space where the cattle used to sleep. We had the feeling of being in a typical village house but imagine our surprise when we climbed the stairs to the first floor, and were greeted by floods of warm light, filling every corner of a large room with soaring ceilings. Two large skylights in the ceiling were the source of this light, which later inspired the name of the house. No wonder the people of the village call it "the big house," I thought.
We fell in love with that space, and it was at that moment when we quickly looked at one another and knew that we had found the place. So we decided to start the adventure and take on the responsibility of continuing to care for that centuries-old house. But our visit was not yet over. This great room opened onto a walled garden, a place where a new surprise awaited us: we were not in a village house, but in a farmhouse! From there we could perfectly appreciate the original facade of the building, with its gabled roof and typical Catalan farmhouse structure.
Shortly after, we learned that 70 years earlier, the house had housed the local school. That's when Rebecca, my wife, said, "It's a box of light." And she was not referring only to that great space full of light, but to the enlightenment that comes with knowledge. Also, for a photographer like me, the light box has added meaning because it is the tool that we use to view slides, that is, to illuminate an opaque body, making it visible. Without a doubt, we had found a name!
